Over the last five years, electrification processes in the field of agricultural mechanization in Europe have evolved rapidly. The technological progress achieved with the experience gained in the automotive sector, the growing attention towards the environmental sustainability of production cycles and the increasingly stringent regulations for the reduction of polluting emissions have in fact accelerated this path, giving impetus to new solutions which through different architectures, hybrid, plug-in and full electric, also promise to improve the efficiency of the machines and reduce management costs.
Wide margins for growth
This has resulted in a market segment that is currently niche, also due to the still limited applicability of these solutions in terms of activities, whose growth margins are however still high also in light of the 500 million euros made available for this transition from the “Pnrr“, the “National Recovery and Resilience Plan”. In fact, it is an opportunity for expansion, rather than for
replacement of the solutions that agricultural mechanization makes available to modern agriculture, an opportunity that Caron also did not miss and which will be physically transposed at Eima 2024 with the launch of the first full electric transporter.
Called Caron “Ec70” and characterized by a new blue livery aimed at underlining the total eco-sustainability of the vehicle, it is oriented in particular to municipal applications in limited traffic areas, in urban parks and gardens and more generally in all these contexts in which the absence of emissions and noise are advantages that are, if not indispensable, at least precious. This is thanks to a powertrain centered on a permanent magnet synchronous electric motor with 50 kilowatts of maximum power, approximately 68 equivalent horsepower, and 300 newton meters of peak torque powered by a 35 kilowatt-hour lithium ion battery pack, operating at 350 volts and can support charging modes up to 22 kilowatt hours.
Second power take-off unit
Alongside the main unit, Caron “Ec70” can also optionally be equipped with a second electric motor dedicated to driving the power take-off, called in this case “ePdf”, while traction is entrusted to a two-speed transmission, slow and fast, which allows the powertrain to ensure the full electric transporter has the ability to overcome slopes of up to one hundred percent even when fully loaded, therefore with a total mass of up to 50 quintals. Finally, an adjustable regenerative braking system which integrates the retarder function contributes to improving the autonomy of the vehicle, currently not declared by the Vicenza company. While driving, especially when going downhill, it allows you to slow down the car simply by releasing the accelerator and without touching the brakes thanks to the resistance action created by the electric motor.
